Homemade Juice

I’ve had my juicer for just about 10 years now, and I love it for so many reasons. I can easily make my own juices at home, and it’s a great way to use up extra produce. Read my article on how to pick the best juicer.

This juice recipe was developed after I received my bi-weekly farm box and I couldn’t use up all of the produce. After a few weeks in my refrigerator, the beets, carrots, and apples really needed to be used. So, that’s why I came up with this combination. A lemon adds extra brightness to the flavor.

  • This juice is full of nutrition and flavor. Carrot juice is very high in carotenoids, which can benefit skin and eye health.
  • Beets are also very healthy, and beet juice has been known to help with energy and blood pressure. You can use red, orange, or yellow beets for this recipe.
  • Freshly squeezed apple juice also has numerous health benefits, including polyphenols, a plant compound that can help reduce inflammation.

Pregnant women and people with immune-compromised systems may need to be careful of unpasteurized juices.

Recipe Steps

Step One

Prepare your produce for juicing. Wash everything and cut into small pieces. My juicer has a pretty narrow feeding tube, so I usually have to cut everything pretty small.

Step Two

Feed the beet slices, carrots, apple slices, and lemon slices through the feeding tube of your juicer. You’ll see that the color of my juice was very orange since my beets were orange. Your juice will be redder if you use red beets.

Step Three

Serve immediately, or store any leftovers in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch carrots, tops removed
  • 3 small apples, washed and sliced
  • 3 large beets, scrubbed clean and sliced
  • 1 lime or lemon, skin removed

Instructions

  1. Wash and chop vegetables so they will fit through the tube of a masticating juicer.
  2. Feed in the vegetables through the tube, alternating hard and soft-textured ones to help facilitate the juicing process.
  3. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Fresh juices should be consumed within 24 hours for the optimal nutrition. Store any leftovers in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.

BLENDER INSTRUCTIONS: Combine the ingredients into the base of a high-speed blender. You may need to include 1/4 – 1/2 cup of water to help the ingredients blender completely. Process on high for about 30-45 seconds. Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag, so that only the juice remains. Discard the pulp or save it for another use.
