I have been hitting the freezer sections of my local grocery stores lately. I honestly never realized how much good stuff is there and, no, I’m not talking about frozen burritos (of which I’ve had my share in the past). I’m talking frozen fruits and vegetables that are awesome for making quick and easy meals.
Besides the typical stuff, so far I’ve found: edamame in the pod, shiitake mushrooms, peaches, marionberries and collard greens. I’m pretty careful about checking the Environmental Working Group’s website to make sure I only buy organic versions of the foods on the “dirty dozen” list.
Thank goodness cherries aren’t on that list because I also found these:
They were begging to go into a smoothie:
I threw them into the blender with some frozen pineapple, a frozen banana, some non-dairy milk, cocoa powder, almond butter, vanilla and dates:
And got this (pin for later)!
The cherries give a distinctive flavor that is a really great alternative to strawberries. I’ve already burned through the one bag of cherries that I bought and so it’s back to the freezer aisle for me.Print
