Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients

  • Frozen sweet cherries to make the smoothie naturally sweet
  • Unsweetened almond milk for creaminess
  • Plain yogurt (your choice as to what kind, I like goat milk yogurt or coconut milk yogurt) for more creaminess
  • Medjool dates or a small ripe banana for added natural sweetness
  • Cocoa powder or cacao for a super chocolatey flavor
  • Almond butter for a healthy fat
  • Baby spinach or baby kale for nutrition


  • Frozen fruit is convenient and is naturally sweet and full of fiber and nutrition.
  • You can substitute dairy-free yogurt instead of regular yogurt for a vegan option. If you are sensitivities to cow’s dairy, try goat milk yogurt for a possible alternative. Or, go with a plant-based yogurt if you want make this recipe dairy-free.
  • This smoothie is sweetened with your choice of Medjool dates or bananas instead of refined sugar.

  • You can swap your favorite frozen fruit for the cherries. Strawberries make a great choice although the smoothie will be the sweetest using sweet frozen cherries.
  • Use dairy-free yogurt for a vegan option, although this will change the nutrition of the smoothie by reducing the protein.

  • 2 cups frozen sweet cherries or strawberries
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (for vegan option, use dairy-free yogurt)
  • 2 pitted Medjool dates or a small ripe banana
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder or 2 teaspoons carob powder
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach or baby kale


  1. Combine the milk, yogurt, frozen cherries, dates, cocoa powder, almond butter, and baby spinach in the pitcher of your blender. Process the ingredients on high for 60 seconds.
  2. Divide the mixture between two glasses and serve cold.
