Not to induce a state of panic or anything, but T-Day is just about 2 1/2 weeks away. ????
I got some good feedback on my first virtual grocery shopping tour in the plant-strong paleo theme, so I’m doing another one today, but in the theme of Healthy Holiday Ingredients. Full disclosure: I’m pleased to say that this post is sponsored by Ralphs Grocery, but all opinions are my own.
Let’s go shopping, shall we?
As usual, I like to start in the fresh produce aisle while doing any grocery shopping to ensure I get my veggies covered. But, when time gets tight as is often the case during the holiday season, I love this pre-washed, pre-chopped kale salad that is so great for last-minute lunch salads:
Another favorite is a bunch or two of organic green onions; they add flavor to any salad or holiday recipe without being overly spicy, IMHO:
Fresh fruit always includes bananas for seasonal faves like my egg- and dairy-free Egg Nog Smoothie:
My local Ralph’s store notes the number of local items in-house which I think is very cool:
Now that the weather is cooler and specifically for soups and stews, broths are a must-have. These are great options when homemade isn’t convenient:
For holiday parties, a great “mock”tail is simply sparkling mineral water with a splash of pomegranate juice and a twist of lime:
For cold mornings or evenings, the hot tea choices are endless:
This one in particular has some great seasonal flavors:
Star anise can get brewed into a batch of hot tea and will make you feel like you’re tucked in a cabin in the snowy woods Laura Ingalls-style:
And, lastly, what would the holidays be without baking? My kitchen is gluten- and dairy-free, but thankfully that’s not even difficult anymore with so many choices:
Chocolate chips can go into just about
Coconut oil is my choice of fat for baking:
You probably already know this, but applesauce can generally be used in place of about half of the amount of fat in most baking recipes, plus it adds sweetness (make your own in the crockpot if you prefer):
I’m putting this in everything now until further notice, hee hee:
Tell me if you like this type of virtual shopping post, and what themes you would like to see in the future? I really want and appreciate your input.
