Homemade Chocolate Mint Tea
Homemade Chocolate Mint Tea is a comforting, delicious beverage that is so easy to make with just a few ingredients. You can use regular mint leaves or the leaves of a Chocolate Mint plant.
Chocolate Mint Tea is one of life’s simple pleasures, and it’s so easy to make right at home.
You can use plain mint leaves for this chocolate drink, or you can use the leaves of an actual Chocolate Mint Plant for a chocolate mint-infused beverage.
A Chocolate Mint plant is a member of the mint family, but has a natural chocolate flavor to the leaves. If you ever come across a Chocolate Mint plant at a nursery or farmers’ market, you might want to consider buying one just for the purpose of making Chocolate Mint Tea.
However, since this plant can be invasive if planted in the ground, you might consider leaving it in a pot or raised garden bed to help contain it.
If you only have access to regular fresh mint, then you can still add chocolate flavor to your Homemade Chocolate Mint Tea. You’ll just need a couple of drops of a chocolate extract.
How to Make Chocolate Mint Tea
It’s so incredibly easy to make homemade chocolate mint tea, and it’s tastes a million times better than any bagged chocolate mint tea I’ve tried.
Step One
Place your fresh mint leaves in two mugs.
Step Two
Pour hot water over the mint into the mug. Use the back of a spoon to muddle the mint with the hot water.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
Step Three
Add about 1/4 teaspoon of chocolate extract if you are using plain mint leaves as opposed to the leaves of a Chocolate Mint plant.
Or, if you don’t have chocolate extract, you can stir in a teaspoon of cocoa powder or cacao powder.
Let the mint flavor steep in the hot water a few minutes before serving.
This is such a simple recipe, but I hope you love it as much as I do.

Recipe FAQs
You can, but it has a nice, natural sweetness from the mint. So, try it first before you add any sweetener (see my list of the best sugar alternatives).
I see them at the farmers’ market every once in awhile. But, you can buy a plant at most nurseries.

Yum, your chocolate mint tea sounds great – it never occurred to me to add cocoa powder into my mint tea…..
Oh, I love mustard greens…. ! Not in a smoothie though… but they are awesome steamed with some tamari, ume plum vinegar and nut yeast….
Mmmm what a great day of eats! Steamed collard greens huh? That sounds good! I’ll have to give that a try =)
And oh my goodness chocolate mint tea!!!! That sounds so good! Yum.
Looking forward to the chickpea burger recipe. Anytime I’ve ever tried making my own burgers, it’s always an epic fail…
YUMMO! That tea sounds totally delicious! I don’t like mint tea by itself but I love choc-mint flavour so I’ll def give it a try!
Yep, chocolate + mint = fantabulousness.
You sure had a delicious day. I was surprised to read that you hate mustard greens–they’re actually my favorite because of their spicy nature. But, Reuben hates it, too, so I don’t buy them often. I loved the Chocolate Mint combo–yum! Nice to see your smiling face pop up on my Facebook page!
Thanks, Zel! Yes, it’s the spiciness of the mustard greens that just makes me shudder. I even tried putting them in a green smoothie to see if I could mask the flavor with fruit, but that was a total disaster. 🙂
That choc mint tea sounds awesome, will have to try it out!
Love the mint tea idea! It would be good with chai too; Chocolate Chai tea get at me!
Chocolate Chai sounds AMAZING!!! 🙂
I’ve been indulging in chocolate mint Teeccino lately. With a little vanilla soy milk, it’s better than a mint mocha latte from that big coffee shop that originated in Seattle!
Ohhhh, I did not know that Teeccino had that flavor. YUM! 🙂
I loved seeing this because I make this SAME drink , except I call it peppermint cocoa:) I’ve never used a mint tea bag- I just always use cocoa powder, almond milk, stevia and a couple tiny drops of essential peppermint oil, which helps my belly:) This is my favorite coffee alternative!:) Have you ever had Crio Bru? (www.criobru.com)- I’m in LOVE with the stuff! 100% roasted cocoa beans you brew!:)
Hi Heather! Ohhh, I love me some peppermint extract, but have never thought about putting in my tea (I’ve mainly been using it in my dessert hummus). Do you know if you get the same digestive benefits from the extract as from the leaves being brewed? I will have to check out Crio Bru but it sounds DANGEROUS. 🙂
Oh, of course you can get the same benefits with the brewed tea!:) I actually just use food grade essential peppermint oil instead of extract. I got a humongous bottle on Vitacost’s website for like $8 and it lasted about a year. I just emptied it in an old liquid stevia bottle so it has an extractor at the top for ease of use:) Just a little bitty drop is all you need! I just use that instead of tea so I don’t waste my tea bags on my cocoa:) Plus, it takes up less room! I adore peppermint tea though. I often put the loose leaves or empty a tea bag and put them in my chocolate green smoothies for an extra chocolatey mint dose. Plus, raw peppermint leaves are so great for you:) I’m glad you’re enjoying this amazing combo as much as I am:)
Ohhhh, good to know! I will def check out the peppermint oil as opposed to the extract. Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Everything looks and sounds awesome as usual! I have an interesting World Food Dish today – posted – as part of Vegan MoFo as well as WIAW – looking for a few other things to link up to as well!
Can’t go wrong with MINT btw! I LOVE mint! Ahhhhhh!
Hi Carrie…
I am just wondering what brand mint tea you used? I have to try this – it sounds delicious!
Hi Carrie! I like Mighty Leaf but Traders Joes also has a good one. Or, you can even just muddle fresh mint in hot water! 🙂
Thank you
