Fresh plums are a juicy fruit with lots of health benefits. Plums are a great ingredient that can be prepared or consumed in different ways.

Most people associate health benefits with prunes, but the fresh fruit is also highly nutritious. It’s high in vitamin C and can act as a natural laxative if things are slow in the digestion department. See my related recipe for my Anti-Constipation Smoothie.

And, when made using a juicer or a blender, fresh plum juice is tasty, naturally sweet, and full of antioxidants which can benefit the immune system.

Why You Need This Recipe

  • Prune juice is made from dried plums. Plum juice is made from fresh fruit and is naturally sweet and delicious. You can use all varieties of plums including red plums, purple plums, or black plums.
  • Use this recipe when you have too many ripe plums on hand. It’s a great way to use up this nutritious fruit.
  • Juicing is a way to get a good source of vitamins and nutrients without having to digest all the fiber from the fruit. See the best juices for beginners or the best juices for bloating.

Key Ingredients

  • Plums are a great healthy fruit that is naturally sweet and juicy. Be sure to use plums that are soft and ripe when you want to make plum juice. You can also use this recipe to make Blueberry Juice!
  • Lemon helps balance the sweetness of the plums and preserve the lovely color.
  • Honey or maple syrup adds a bit more sweetness, but you can leave the sweetener or added sugar out if your plums are very sweet.

Recipe Steps

Step One

Wash all of your produce. Cut it into pieces small enough to fit through the feeding tube of your juicer or into small chunks if you are using a blender.

I use an Omega masticating juicer to make all of my juices, but you can also use a high speed blender.

See my list of the best juicer blenders.

See the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact measurements.

Step Two

Add all ingredients to your chosen machine, adding water if using a blender.

Step Three

Blend until smooth or run through the juicer per directions.

Step Four

Strain through a nut milk bag to remove any of the fibrous materials.

Serve the fresh plum juice immediately or chill for the optimal sweetness and best taste. You can also serve your plum juice recipe with ice cubes to enhance the sweetness and flavor from the natural sugars.

Recipe Tips

  • You can easily double or triple this recipe for more servings.
  • Fresh juice is best served right after it’s made. But, it can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Feel free to add additional ingredients to your plum juice recipes to liven it up. Add apples and up to a 1-inch piece of fresh ginger to make it a sweeter version with a zing.

Recipe FAQs

Can plum juice help bowel movements?

Maybe, but the research on helping to relieve constipation is done on prune juice, not plum juice.

Can you freeze plum juice or other fruit juices?

Yes, but you’ll get the most nutrients from fresh juice.

Homemade Plum Juice is naturally sweet, refreshing, and great for the digestive system. Try making this recipe for Plum Juice in a juicer or a blender.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 ripe plums, chopped with the pit removed
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled
  • 1 cup water (if using a blender)
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Cut the plums into large pieces that will fit through the feeding tube of a juicer. If you will be using a blender to make your juice, then cut your produce into smaller pieces than if you are using a juicer.
  2. If you are using a juicer, then run the fruit pieces through the juicer. Collect the juice in a pitcher, stir in the sweetener (if using), and serve immediately.
  3. If you are using a food processor or blender, add the plums, lemon, and sweetener (optional) to the base. Blend or process on high for 20-30 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Then, pour the blended juice through a nut milk bag, squeezing it from the top down to drain the juice into a pitcher. Discard the collected pulp, or save it and use it for another purpose.
  5. Serve the juice immediately.

Notes

  1. You can easily double or triple this recipe for more servings.
