Happy New Year! I hope your 2016 is getting off to a great start. I was talking to a friend recently about setting New Year’s Resolutions, but we both decided that goals or intentions are a more loving way of thinking about changes. I made a list of 10 goals in just a few minutes, but then spent more time thinking about actionable ways to make them happen.
A goal that will be with me the rest of my life is doing everything I can to stay cancer-free. One of the ways I am working on this is by including “superfoods” into my routine as much as possible. This is not necessarily something new (see my previous superfood smoothie stash post), but the specific ingredients I use definitely evolve with time, new research, and with what I have access to.
Today’s post is special because I’ve partnered with the company NOW to select some of my favorite superfood products. And, I’m giving away a $50 promo code for one lucky reader to spend on the company’s website (see the end of this post for the giveaway entry link). NOW sponsored this post and was generous enough to let me select some of my favorite products to share with you; all opinions are my own. Also, I am not a licensed health professional, so you need to consult yours before making any changes to your diet or supplement routine.
Here are some of the items I picked on my most recent online shopping tour that work especially well when you’re building a smoothie. To make your life easier, I’m including direct links to the NOW website in case you want to check them out further. 🙂
Hemp seeds have been a mainstay in my kitchen every since I became plant-strong, and I make Homemade Vanilla Hemp Milk at least once a week for my dairy-free needs or as the base of a smoothie (it takes all of 30 seconds in a high-speed blender…really!):
Hibiscus tea has been on my radar since I heard from Dr. Michael Greger about its high antioxidant levels:
To get the tea into a smoothie, you can either brew a small amount and just add it right in, or get all fancy and make hibiscus tea cubes as described in this post, which is what I like to do (warm green smoothies are ick, IMHO):
I like the NOW brand of maca because it’s gelatinized for enhanced absorption. Up close and personal, it looks like this; I think it has the flavor of malt powder, so I luuuuurve it in my smoothies:
NOW’s version of spirulina is organic and non-GMO, with no outwardly strong flavor that I can tell, other than being super-dooper green:
Lastly, here’s a shortcut for people in your life who refuse to eat fruits and veggies in whole food form:
This Fruit & Greens supplement comes in a pill, but I just dropped it into my blender and it got mixed in just fine. Again, this specific product is more an insurance policy for times when the real stuff is unavailable for whatever reason:
Now, for the giveaway link! One winner with an address located within the continental U.S. will be randomly selected on Thursday, January 14th; all restrictions apply:
