One of the highlights of my trip to Vida Vegan Con last weekend was the tour of Bob’s Red Mill, located about 15 minutes outside of Portland, Oregon. If you are ever in the area, I recommend going on the tour, it is free and only takes about an hour. Click here for exact tour information.
The mill store is hard to miss:
The factory is huge, spotless and efficient:
We saw the gluten-free part of the factory which is kept entirely separate from any grains containing gluten. Considering how severe some gluten-allergies can be, this is important.
Post tour, my group headed to the store where we found every Bob’s product imaginable. I was a kid in a candy, er, whole-grain store!
The folks at Bob’s also sent us home with some free samples including this “Mighty Tasty” gluten-free hot cereal:
Instead of actually cooking it for the time suggested, I used the advice of the tour guide and brought the water to a boil, stirred in the cereal, covered the pot and let it sit off the burner for 15-20 minutes. The cereal absorbed all the water and it looked like this:
I served mine with fruit and almond butter:
All mixed up:
The cereal was definitely milder than cooked oats, but equally satisfying and wholesome.
Plus, meeting this guy was super fun!
P.S. I also have a Carrie on Living Amazon affiliate store where I list all of my favorite beauty items, kitchen devices, books, and other cool stuff that supports my lifestyle. Your purchase of any item on Amazon helps support my blog so thank you in advance!
I enjoyed meeting so many new friends on this trip. If you missed my first post-conference tour on how I ate healthfully on the trip, please check out this post.
