This post is inspired by the “Giving Tuesday” trend which is all about supporting the amazing work of so many non-profits and charities. I absolutely love this coming-together of people to make a positive difference.
And, just like that we’re into the holiday season. With December only a few days away, I thought I’d combine my November Review/Favorite Things post with some of my favorite charities on this special #GivingTuesday.
Higher education scholarships to help impoverished youth:
The non-profit agency Children International has a goal to provide thousands of HOPE Scholarships to deserving youth. This is a cause near and dear to my heart since when I was a kid, my family spent at least a few years at the poverty level when my dad lost his business and went personally and professionally bankrupt. It is only through the generosity of scholarships that I was able to attend college.
For the Children International HOPE scholarship, every dollar donated will be doubled up to $1 million for #GivingTuesday! You can learn more and make a donation here.
Access to clean water that also helps women and girls:
I just listened to an interview on Bulletproof radio with Scott Harrison from Charity Water. This is an amazing non-profit that gives away 100% of donations to improve access to clean water around the world. I was stunned to learn that the burden of collecting water in many communities falls on the shoulders of women and girls who walk as much as 8 hours a day in their efforts. Scott said that the number of hours that African women and girls devote to this task is equivalent to the entire number workforce hours in France. To learn more or to make a donation, click here.
Support for animals displaced by the recent hurricanes:
I saw all the news stories about the tragedies suffered by humans during the recent hurricanes in our country, but I also couldn’t help but think of the animals affected. I donated to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)’s Field Investigation and Response Fund for displaced animals here.
Join me on this Giving Tuesday in making a financial donation to one of these organizations, or one of your choosing! The point is to give what you can. Thank you!!!
On that note and as we wrap up November, 2017, I thought I’d gather a short list of gratitudes from the last 30 days, including:
- Many days of warm, clear weather here on California’s central coast with lots of beach walks and whale-watching
- Persimmons and more persimmons at the farmer’s market. These orange fall fruits are one of my favorite foods in the whole world
- I’ve started doing interviews on my podcast and it’s SO much fun to connect with women who have been on a healing journey and have wisdom they share so freely
- My kittens turn 1-year old in a few days. From scared 2-pound littles ones to 10-pound characters, they fill my heart with joy even with all of their antics and rambunctiousness.
What’s new with you? What made you grateful this month?
