If you’ve ever had deep fried Banana Fritters, then you know how delicious they are! This healthy version is baked and not fried. Try these yummy Air Fryer Banana Fritters today. This recipe is vegetarian and gluten-free.

  • Total Time: 23 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 2 bananas
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (use a gluten-free baking flour for gluten-free diets; I like the Bob’s 1-to-1 Gluten-Free Baking Flour)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened, shredded coconut
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Whipped cream or ice cream (optional for serving; for dairy-free diets, be sure to use a dairy-free version of either)

Instructions

  1. Spray the bottom of your air fryer basket with the nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Peel the bananas and cut them into 1-inch slices. Place the sliced bananas in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Place the flour in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Then, in a medium bowl, combine the coconut, cinnamon, and sugar. Stir to combine.
  5. Working with one slice at a time, dip each slice into the bowl with the flour to coat it. Then, dip the banana slice into the egg to coat. Finally, coat each slice with the shredded coconut mixture.
  6. Place the coated banana slices in the air fryer basket. Try to keep the banana slices in a single layer without touching each other.
  7. Set the temperature to 375°F for 4 minutes. Then, use tongs to turn the banana slices over. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the fritters have started to turn a golden brown on the outside.
  8. Serve warm, plain or with your choice of whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

  1. This recipe is best using bananas that are not overly ripe. This helps them from getting mushy when cooked.
  2. Feel free to use a parchment-paper liner when cooking the fritters. This will help prevent any of the coating from falling through the basket. Be sure that your liner has a few slits or holes cut into it to help the air circulate. You may need to add an extra 1-2 minutes to the cook time to help the fritters get fully cooked when using a liner.
  3. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fritters in two batches.
  4. Some air fryer models needs to be preheated. Please refer to the owner’s manual of your particular model to see if you need to preheat it before using.
