Fried food has a time and place, but you can enjoy these baked banana fritters any day! The sweet banana is surrounded by batter with crunchy coconut.
The air fryer bakes up the fritters perfectly (see my list of the best air fryers under $100).
These banana fritters are perfect on their own or served with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream (use dairy-free versions for dairy-free diets).
Why You Need This Recipe
- Bananas are full of nutrition and natural sugars which makes them a great fruit-based dessert. See my related recipe for Air Fryer Bananas.
- Kids will enjoy making this recipe with just a tiny bit of supervision.
- This recipe is easy to make gluten-free and it is already dairy-free. Just be sure to use a dairy-free ice cream or whipped cream if you want to serve the fritters with a topping.
Key Ingredients
All-purpose flour coats the banana slices to be able to dip into eggs. Use gluten-free baking flour to make these fritters gluten-free (I like Bob’s 1-to-1 Gluten-Free Baking Flour).
Unsweetened coconut adds flavor and crunch without excessive sugar.
Cinnamon and sugar coat the coconut to enhance the fun flavors.
Bananas are naturally sweet and well-loved by many, making them the perfect base.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.

Recipe Tips & Substitutions
- This recipe is best using bananas that are not overly ripe. This helps them from getting mushy when cooked.
- Feel free to use a parchment-paper liner when cooking the fritters. This will help prevent any of the coating from falling through the basket. Be sure that your liner has a few slits or holes cut into it to help the air circulate. You may need to add an extra 1-2 minutes to the cook time to help the fritters get fully cooked when using a liner.
- Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fritters in two batches.
- Some air fryer models needs to be preheated. Please refer to the owner’s manual of your particular model to see if you need to preheat it before using.
Recipe FAQs
Unfortunately not. The texture changes and they will be too mushy. This is also why you need to use perfectly ripe bananas and not the brown spotted ones.
Out of cinnamon or looking for something new? Try pumpkin spice or apple pie spice if you have those on hand. A quick grate of fresh nutmeg mixed in your cinnamon would also be great.
These are best eaten fresh and warm. They will get soggy later on and reheating may turn the banana to mush.
