Who can resist cookie dough? Now you don’t have to! This eggless cookie dough is made with heat-treated flour and no raw eggs, so it’s safe to devour by the spoonful without concerns of foodborne illness like e. coli.

Grab a glass of milk (or almond milk!) and keep reading as I show you how to make this delicious and easy recipe.

Why You Need This Recipe

  • While I like to eat this recipe with a spoon or rolled into cookie dough balls, you can also add it to so many desserts as a garnish. Devour it with ice cream, milkshakes, brownies, or by the spoonful!
  • It’s customizable. This is an edible sugar cookie dough but that doesn’t mean you can’t add your favorite toppings. If sprinkles aren’t your thing try adding mini chocolate chips or your favorite cookie add-in.
  • With this recipe, you don’t have to worry about foodborne illness. Real cookie dough contains eggs and flour which, when eaten raw, can contain harmful bacteria that shouldn’t be eaten by the spoonful (or at all).
Ingredients for edible cookie dough

Key Ingredients

All purpose flour is heat-treated to kill any bacteria and then used as the base for this cookie dough recipe. You can easily use a gluten-free flour for gluten-free diets (I like Bob’s 1-to-1 Gluten-Free Baking Flour).

Butter gives cookie dough it’s rich and creamy texture. For a vegan or dairy-free version, simply substitute vegan butter in its place.

Sugar is essential to any cookie dough recipe and gives it sweetness. You can use coconut sugar or white sugar.

Vanilla extract give the cookie dough an extra depth of flavor and accents the sugar perfectly.

Recipe Tips & Substitutions

  • If you prefer a lower glycemic version, you can use coconut sugar instead of white sugar. But, please note that the coconut sugar will change the color of the dough and make it darker than regular sugar cookie dough.
  • You can also form the cookie dough into balls. Chill the cookie dough for about 20-30 minutes before forming it into balls and serving.
  • You can heat and cool your flour up to a few days in advance of making this recipe. You don’t necessarily need to heat it right before using. If you do heat the flour ahead of time, store it in an air-tight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to make your edible cookie dough.

When you want a no-bake treat that tastes just like the real thing, you’ve got to make this Edible Sugar Cookie Dough. This fun and delicious dessert is ready in just 25 minutes with no baking! Gluten-free option included.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup heated all-purpose flour (use gluten-free baking flour for gluten-free diets)
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (use vegan butter for dairy-free diets), warmed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 24 tablespoons sprinkles (optional, for adding color and extra texture)

Instructions

  1. To heat your flour, preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread your raw flour on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 10 minutes. The flour should heat up during this amount of time to reduce any chance of foodborne illness. If you prefer to use the microwave, you can spread your flour on a microwave-safe plate and heat for at least 30 seconds to have the same effect.
  2. While the flour is heating, place the warmed butter and sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to cream the ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  3. Then, use a spatula to stir in the flour, vanilla, and sprinkles.
  4. Serve immediately, or refrigerate and serve chilled.
