This Iced Mocha recipe is a dreamy combination of caffeine and sweet chocolate poured over ice. What could be better on a hot summer morning?

This special treat is perfect for occasions when you want a coffee recipe like no other. You could argue that it’s a little healthier than ones made at the coffee shop since you have full control over the quality of ingredients.

Most traditional recipes for Iced Mocha use chilled espresso plus milk. I’ve adapted this one for my dairy-free friends (see my article on the benefits of a dairy-free diet).

Why You Need This Recipe

  • Instead of spending a fortune on prepared coffee drinks, make this flavorful drink at home with only five simple ingredients. I’ve made it dairy-free using coconut milk instead of dairy milk.
  • Served over ice, this beverage is perfect for a summer morning or as a mid-day treat.
  • Coffee and chocolate make an amazing combination!

Key Ingredients

a cup of coffee next to coffee beans.

Coffee adds the rich base flavor, as well as the kick of caffeine that we are all looking for in a morning pick-me-up. You can also use an espresso shot if you have an espresso machine or espresso maker.

I like to use cold brew coffee for this recipe. Leftover coffee from your morning pot of coffee, instant coffee, or cold brew mocha will also work.

Coconut milk is a great dairy alternative that adds a lovely flavor to this beverage. You can use whatever type of non-dairy milk you like (oat milk would be great), but coconut milk offers the richest flavor.

Chocolate syrup gives the extra sweetness that makes this drink so tasty and satisfying.

If you don’t want to use chocolate syrup because of the sugar, feel free to use cocoa powder instead. Either way, you’ll get your chocolate fix!

I hope you agree that this is one of your new favorite coffee drinks and is perfect for a hot summer day. The combination of chocolate and coffee is like no other.

If you are truly extra, you can top your iced coffee recipe with chocolate shavings, chocolate sprinkles, or chocolate chips.

Recipe Tips & Substitutions

  • This recipe can easily be doubled and served in 2 glasses.
  • You can substitute the chocolate syrup with 1-2 teaspoons of cocoa powder or cacao powder if you prefer. Or, leave out the chocolate altogether for an Iced Latte.
  • It’s best to brew your coffee and chill it at least several hours before you make the mocha. Otherwise, the hot coffee will melt the ice cubes.
