If you’ve never had fresh watermelon juice, then you are in for a real treat! This recipe is perfect for special diets because it’s vegan, gluten-free, paleo, and made with no added sugar.

Because of its high carotenoid and lycopene content, watermelon can also act as a natural sunscreen. It’s the perfect summertime fruit, and you’re going to love how easy it is to transform the fruit into juice.

Most fruit juice recipes use simple syrup or added sugars. This recipe doesn’t include any added sugars and relies on the natural sweetness of the watermelon.

Why You Need This Recipe

  • Make this watermelon juice recipe in a blender or a juicer. Either way, you’ll get a smooth and absolutely fantastic-tasting juice that doesn’t need any sugar.
  • Each serving of this delicious juice has approximately 60 calories and 20% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C. You’ll also get some vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene. It’s a nourishing perfect summer drink that you can feel good about serving to your friends and family.
  • This easy recipe is a great way to use up leftover extra watermelon that is sitting in your fridge.

Key Ingredients

ingredients for making watermelon mint juice.

Fresh seedless watermelon makes the base of the juice. Pick a melon that is heavy for its size. This will help ensure you get the sweetest and ripest watermelon that you can.

Fresh mint adds tons of amazing flavor and balances the natural sweetness of the fruit.

Fresh lime also balances the sweet flavor and helps add brightness to the juice.

Recipe Steps

If you have a decent blender, preferably a high-speed blender, you can make watermelon juice in 15 seconds. You don’t need to add water or anything, you simply just blend the watermelon chunks until they are liquified.

This recipe is made a little bit fancy by adding the juice of a fresh lime and some fresh mint leaves. The lime juice (you can also use a little lemon juice) adds brightness and helps balance the watermelon flavor. The fresh mint rounds out the flavors and makes this Watermelon Juice absolutely scrumptious.

On a hot day, there’s nothing like this drink that is essentially a Watermelon Mint Agua Fresca.

Step One

Chill your watermelon in the refrigerator. Then, cut it in half and cut off the rind. Cut the watermelon flesh of half of the watermelon into large chunks. Store the other half of the watermelon for another use.

Step Two

Combine the watermelon chunks, lime juice, and fresh mint in the base of your blender.

Step Three

Blend the watermelon chunks until they are liquified. This should only take between 15-30 seconds in a good blender.

Step Four

Pour the juice through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl. This will get rid of any pulp from the watermelon.

Step Five

Serve the watermelon immediately, or store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

Feel free to add ice cubes or serve your simple watermelon juice with a lime slice or watermelon slice.

Recipe Tips & Substitutions

  • JUICER INSTRUCTIONS: if you prefer to use a juicer instead of a blender, simply cut the watermelon into pieces that will fit through the feeding tube of your juicer. Then, feed the pieces into the juicer, including the mint and lime pieces as well. Serve immediately.
  • Use a seedless watermelon so you don’t have to pick out the black seeds. The white seeds are okay to include as they are flavorless.
  • Also, look for a juicy watermelon in season that is heavy for its size.
  • For an adult beverage that makes delicious cocktails, add a shot of vodka to your serving for an instant Watermelon Mojito (don’t forget to serve it with some muddled mint in your favorite glass; see my recipe for Watermelon Vodka Cocktail).
  • Freeze any leftover juice into an ice cube tray to make watermelon cubes.

Recipe FAQs

Do I really have to strain the juice?

No, you don’t, but it will be a little bit thick if you don’t strain it.

Can I blend the watermelon rind?

You can include a bit of the watermelon rind, but I wouldn’t use too much of it for fear that the juice may turn bitter.

How can you tell if cut watermelon is bad?

In general, cut watermelon should be consumed within 5 days of cutting it. Cut watermelon is bad if it appears moldy or has dry spots within the pink flesh. Watermelon has gone bad if it smells bad or has obvious mold.
