Air Fryer Banana Chips with Cinnamon
These Air Fryer Banana Chips with Cinnamon taste like nature’s candy! They are lightly sweetened and perfect for a healthy snack. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free.
Bananas are fairly sweet on their own, but sometimes a sweet treat fits the bill. Adding just a touch of brown sugar allows banana slices to caramelize in the air fryer for a crispy crunchy treat!
These homemade banana chips made with simple ingredients is a great snack. They’re like potato chips made from fruit.
Why You Need This Recipe
- Snack time is ready in under 20 minutes, start to finish!
- Fruit is a healthy snack option, even with a touch of added sugar. Skip the store-bought version which often uses unhealthy oils and way too much sugar.
- If you bought a lot of bananas, this is a great way to use some up before they become too ripe.
Key Ingredients
Bananas are full of potassium and a favorite fruit of kids and adults. They are also budget-friendly and available all year round. Use under-ripe or slightly green bananas for this recipe.
Brown sugar adds a lot of flavor even with just a little bit. Cinnamon helps enhance the flavor.
Just enough olive oil is used to make sure these chips get crispy in the air fryer.
Recipe Steps
Step One
Thinly slice your banana, trying to keep them consistent in size so they cook evenly.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
Step Two
Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl.
Step Three
Stir gently to coat the raw banana slices.
Step Four
Set banana slices in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Cook and enjoy!
If you’re feeling really decadent, serve these crispy chips on top of ice cream.
Recipe Tips & Substitutions
- Some air fryer models needs to be preheated. Check your manual and adjust your time accordingly.
- The best bananas for this recipe are ones that are yellow on the outside without too many brown spots. If the bananas are too ripe, they will be mushy and aren’t ideal for making into chips.
- You can use brown sugar or coconut sugar to sweeten the banana chips.
- Let any leftover cooked banana chips cool completely before storing. They will stay good in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Feeling spicy? Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to take these air fried banana chips to the next level.
Recipe FAQs
No, save those for your smoothies. Use fresh bananas that are bright yellow but not yet overripe. You want them firm enough to hold up to stirring and cooking. Frozen bananas are too watery and soft for this recipe. See my guide on how to freeze bananas for smoothies.
Feel free to experiment here. I used olive oil, but coconut oil would add even more flavor.
They taste like a crispy slice of banana that is sweet and crunchy. They are delicious!
Bananas are not a source of natural probiotics, but they are a source of prebiotics. This means that they have dietary fiber which helps feed the healthy microbes in our gut.
Bananas are amazingly versatile. I have another recipe for Air Fryer Bananas which uses bananas sliced lengthwise.

Air Fryer Banana Chips with Cinnamon
These Air Fryer Banana Chips with Cinnamon taste like nature’s candy! They are lightly sweetened and perfect for a healthy snack. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free.
- Total Time: 22 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
Ingredients
- Nonstick cooking spray
- 2 bananas (not overly ripe)
- 2 teaspoons olive oil or your favorite cooking oil
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar or coconut sugar
Instructions
- Spray the bottom of your air fryer basket liberally with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
- Remove the bananas from their skins and slice the bananas thinly (about ¼-inch thick). Try to slice the bananas as uniformly as possible so they will cook evenly.
- Place the sliced bananas in a medium mixing bowl. Add the oil, cinnamon, and sugar. Toss gently to combine.
- Transfer the bananas to your air fryer basket and try to spread them out. It is okay if they overlap slightly, but they should mostly be in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you many need to bake them in two batches.
- Set the temperature to 350°F for 10 minutes. Use tongs to turn the banana chips over and cook for an additional 7-10 minutes, or until they have started to brown and crisp up. Be careful to not let them burn.
- Transfer the banana chips to a serving plate to cool before serving. The banana chips will crisp up as they cool.

Followed instructions exactly – bananas never crisped up. More like carmelized bananas than banana chips.
