Sweet potatoes are budget-friendly and go with just about anything. I like to chop them up and air fry for them for an easy side dish.

Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene, Vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, among an abundance of other disease-fighting vitamins. They can help lower inflammation in the body and lower cholesterol.

Not only are they delicious, but they are worth adding to your daily meal prep. They taste a lot like sweet potato fries, but in cubed form and made with less oil. Additionally, this sweet potato recipe is paleo, Whole30 approved, vegan, and gluten-free!

Key Ingredients

ingredients for air fryer sweet potato cubes.
  • Sweet potatoes – Buy the orange fleshed variety as they are naturally sweeter than the white variety, plus they have high levels of beta carotene. Make sure to buy sweet potatoes that are firm with no mold or dark brown spots. If you want a recipe for whole sweet potatoes, be sure to check out my Instant Pot Whole Sweet Potatoes recipe.
  • Olive oil – I used olive oil but you could also use coconut oil, ghee, or avocado oil if you prefer. Be sure to check out my article on the safest cooking oils.
  • Cinnamon – Cinnamon and sweet potato make an amazing combo. The ground cinnamon helps bring out the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes. If you don’t want to use cinnamon, you can also use seasonings such as chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, maple syrup, brown sugar, Italian herbs, or even just salt and pepper (or your favorite seasoning). Don’t be afraid to mix warming and savory spices.
  • Sea salt – Never underestimate the power of a small amount of sea salt. Salt enhances all the flavors and makes food taste good!

Recipe Steps

how to cook sweet potato cubes in the air fryer.

Step One

Peel and chop your sweet potatoes into 1-inch chunks on a cutting board. It’s okay if they’re not perfect. Just aim for about the same size so that the cubes cook evenly.

Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.

Step Two

Place the sweet potato chunks into a medium bowl or large bowl.

Step Three

Add the extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and cinnamon then stir to combine.

Step Four

Pour the sweet potatoes into the air fryer basket. It’s okay if they overlap a little bit but try your best to get them in a single layer.

Set the cooking time to 12 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Stop once to toss the cubes during the cooking process.

Once the sweet potatoes are done they will turn brown around the edges. Add 1-2 extra minutes of cook time until they are browned and crispy on the outside (but not burned).

Remove the cooked sweet potatoes from the air fryer and serve warm.
