The base of this Tiktok trend mocktail recipe uses tart cherry juice to help promote a good night’s sleep.

Tart cherry juice has been shown to have a ton of health benefits including being anti-inflammatory with lots of antioxidants.

Additionally, it’s gone viral on social media as being the key ingredient in a bedtime routine mocktail. Pure tart cherry juice combined with magnesium citrate seems to help promote deep sleep and calm the nervous system.

Potential Recipe Benefits

  • If you suffer from poor sleep quality, it’s worth trying this natural remedy. Swap a glass of wine for this perfect nightcap that is health promoting and low risk (however, you may wish to discuss with your healthcare provider before adding any supplements to your routine, including magnesium supplements).
  • The combination of tart cherry juice, magnesium powder, lime juice, and sparkling water or prebiotic soda tastes great and may promote gut health, muscle relaxation, and the sleep-wake cycle.

Tart Cherry Juice Mocktail Ingredients

This Cherry Mocktail uses simple ingredients that you should be able to find at your local grocery store.

  • Look for unsweetened tart cherry juice (also called sour cherry juice) from the grocery store or online. Read the ingredient label and make sure it’s 100% juice. Tart cherries are on my list of fruits starting with the letter T.
  • Lime juice adds brightness of flavor, plus even more vitamin C. You can use any type of citrus juices you like.
  • Sparkling naturally-flavored fruit water is carbonated and helps make this drink fizzy. I like using Spindrift Lime-Flavored sparkling water, but you can use whatever brand you like. You can also use regular sparkling mineral water or one of the new probiotic sodas if you prefer.
  • Magnesium powder is part of the original recipe to help promote healthy sleep.
  • Ice is optional, but helps bring out the natural flavors and sweetness of the ingredients.

Recipe Steps

Step One

Juice half a lime into a wine glass or highball glass. Add ice, if using.

Step Two

Add the tart cherry juice and magnesium powder, and stir gently to combine.

Step Three

Top the drink with your soda water of choice and stir one more time.

Enjoy about 30 minutes to one hour before bedtime.

I hope you agree that this is a tasty mocktail that is incredibly easy to make and that it helps promote healthy sleep for you.

This drink has been part of my nighttime routine for over 5 years. I like to have it with ice in the summertime and without ice during the cooler months.

Recipe Tips

  • I like the Spindrift brand of naturally-flavored carbonated water, but you can use whatever brand you like. Just make sure there are no added sugars. You can also use regular plain sparkling mineral water, prebiotic soda, or other types of sugar-free flavored sodas, too. See my related article, Is Olipop Healthy?
  • If magnesium citrate causes digestive discomforts including diarrhea, you can also try magnesium glycinate as an alternative. If magnesium is a new supplement for you, start small and work up. Learn more about the different types of magnesium.
