Avocado Chocolate Smoothie (Vegan)
This creamy Avocado Chocolate Smoothie is absolutely delicious! It tastes like a milkshake, but it’s healthier and 100% dairy-free and vegan-friendly. Use frozen or fresh avocado plus a few other simple ingredients.
Avocadoes are perfect for smoothies. They have a high fat content which means they have a creamy flesh that’s ideal for making them thick and smooth without any dairy.
They’re also incredibly nutritious with a neutral flavor that pairs well with most smoothies especially chocolate. The chocolate and banana flavor shines through while the avocado just adds a wonderful texture and added nutrients.
Trust me, this healthy chocolate smoothie masks any of the avocado flavor.
Why You Need This Recipe
- It makes an excellent on-the-go breakfast. Smoothies are a perfect breakfast when you don’t have much time but want something healthy.
- The next time you have a chocolate craving, try this nutritious and healthy smoothie instead of something packed full of sugar (like store-bought cookies!). It doesn’t have to be a treat to taste like one.
- It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and incredibly delicious!
Key Ingredients
Unsweetened almond milk has a neutral flavor that helps make the smoothie smooth without any dairy or added sugar.
Unsweetened cocoa powder adds a rich chocolate flavor to the smoothie and lots of good antioxidants. You can also use raw cacao powder.
Ripe avocado thickens up the smoothie and makes it creamy like a chocolate milkshake.
Banana naturally sweetens this delicious smoothie and makes it thick and cold like ice cream. Be sure the banana is ripe or it won’t be sweet and creamy.
Maple syrup sweetens it up nicely.

FAQs
Avocadoes are nutrient powerhouses. They contain a generous amount of healthy fats, potassium, and fiber because of this they’re also very filling. You might also like my recipe for Chocolate Avocado Pudding and my tips on how to freeze ripe avocados.
The frozen banana is what thickens up the smoothie and makes it creamy so it’s essential for this recipe. Freezing a banana is super simple. Peel the banana then break it in half and put it in a zip top bag to freeze overnight. You can do this with several bananas so you always have one ready. See my full post on how to freeze bananas.

Pretty tasty and just the right level of sweetness. A glug of flax oil makes it extra smooth and the slightly nutty flavour enhances the smoothie. Not to mention, flax oil is extremely healthy.
