This Liver Detox Smoothie is a great recipe to help you feel more energetic and less bloated. It’s perfect for those times of the year when you’re feeling like you want to increase your nutrient intake to help your body feel its best.
This recipe can also be used if you are trying to do a heavy metals cleanse or improve healthy liver function.
With only wholesome ingredients, this green smoothie is a powerhouse of antioxidants and immune-boosting nutrients to support your digestive system, immune system, and liver health. As always, please check with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your diet.
Liver Detox Smoothie Benefits
- Enhanced Liver Function: The ingredients in a liver detox green smoothie, such as cilantro and leafy greens, are rich in antioxidants and nitrates, which are known to improve liver function. These components help in the natural detoxification process, aiding the liver in filtering and expelling toxins from the body.
- Boost in Nutrient Absorption: The high vitamin C content from ingredients like lemon enhances the absorption of iron from the leafy greens, crucial for preventing heart disease and other chronic health issues. The fiber content aids in digestion, ensuring efficient nutrient uptake and regular bowel movements.
- Immune System Support: Regular consumption of this smoothie with healthy greens can contribute to a stronger immune system. The blend of vitamins A, C, and K, along with minerals such as iron and calcium, found in greens, play a vital role in maintaining a healthy immune response.
Ingredients
- Plant milk like almond milk acts as the liquid base of this smoothie, aiding in the blending process and adding a creamy texture with no dairy products.
- Avocado makes this green smoothie super creamy and satisfying. The other ingredients add flavor and nutrition, without tasting overly “green” or healthy. You can also use hemp seeds, chia seeds, or flax seeds instead of avocado, if you wish.
- Cilantro in particular is renowned for its protective and detoxifying factors. See my related list of the best greens for smoothies. I also included dandelion greens which are often used in the natural health world for liver health issues.
- Frozen banana and pineapple help add natural sweetness and thickness. Banana contains potassium and pineapple contains bromelain which can aid in liver health. You can substitute the tropical fruit for green apple if you want less sugar.
- Paleo protein powder is optional but can help to make this a meal replacement smoothie.

Step Three

While this liver detox smoothie recipe is not intended to repair liver damage, the high amount of antioxidants may offer help to a sluggish liver.
If you have serious liver disease, you will need to work with a healthcare provider to get the right treatment. Just drinking a liver cleansing smoothie will offer little help if you have fatty liver disease or another medical condition.
That said, consuming lots of whole foods with dietary fiber and antioxidants to fight free radicals is always a good idea for overall health.
Recipe Tips

Step one says milk but recipe says filtered water?
I want to try this. Would it work to blend and then freeze a few days worth to make ahead?
Hi Sue, apologies for the mistake. I’ve updated the recipe using plant milk. And, yes, you can make it ahead of time, freeze it, and then defrost 24 hours before serving.
I really love this combination. It seems like it would taste really green, but it actually tastes great!!!
