Turmeric Shot Using Fresh or Powdered Turmeric
The next time you’re feeling under the weather, try this Anti-Inflammatory & Healthy Turmeric Shot. It’s tasty and zesty, and full of health-promoting ingredients. Make this wellness shot recipe using fresh or powered turmeric.
Wellness shots taste great and have anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric specifically fights infection and benefits your body and brain. This root from the ginger family fights inflammation, improves memory, and lowers your risk for heart disease.
You can buy turmeric shots at your local health food store or at juice bars, but they’re expensive. This is why I like to make mine at home. You only need four ingredients and less than 20 minutes to whip up a turmeric shot.
You can use fresh turmeric root to get as many nutrients as possible, but you can also use the powder if you’re low on time or ingredients. All you need is turmeric, lemon, coconut water, and black pepper.
Why You Need This Recipe
- Brands like Vive and Kor cost around four dollars for one 2-ounce shot. While this may not seem expensive, it can add up if you want more than one!
- Turmeric Wellness Shots are a great way to improve gut health and a natural way to improve energy levels. Turmeric is on my list of foods as part of a leaky gut diet.
- Homemade turmeric shots are easy-peasy to make, like “place all the ingredients into the blender and blend” kind of easy. Serve them in a shot glass and enjoy!
Key Ingredients
Turmeric root – Turmeric root is a close relative to ginger root. It has an earthy and bitter flavor with a bright orange interior. It’s known for many scientifically proven health benefits.
Don’t have turmeric on hand? See my list of the Best Substitutes for Turmeric.
Lemon – Lemons are packed with Vitamin C and a bright flavor.
Coconut water – Refreshing coconut water tames the flavor of the lemon and turmeric. It’s also high in potassium and naturally sweet. If you dislike the flavor, you can use water in its place. You will lose some of the natural sweetness though.
Black pepper – Black pepper may seem like an odd ingredient for a wellness shot but it’s an intentional choice. Black pepper contains a substance called piperine which increases the absorption of curcumin – the main ingredient in turmeric.

I hope your family enjoys this wellness shot recipe as much as mine does.
Recipe Tips & Substitutions
- INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING DRIED GROUND TURMERIC: If you don’t have a juicer or blender, you can make this recipe using ground turmeric. Simply combine 2 teaspoons of ground turmeric to a jar with a lid. Next, add the fresh lemon juice, coconut water, and black pepper to the jar with the dried turmeric. Put the lid on the jar and shake it vigorously, until the ground turmeric is mixed in well with the juice.
- Ground turmeric is made from dried turmeric and can be found in the spice section of most grocery stores. Fresh turmeric can be found in the refrigerator section of most health food stores. It is usually kept near the fresh ginger.
- Feel free to add some fresh ginger to this recipe to make Ginger Turmeric Shots.
- The black pepper is not essential to the recipe, but can help make the turmeric more bioavailable and easy for your body to absorb. In other words, pepper helps with the absorption of turmeric.
- Please note that fresh turmeric root can temporarily stain your hands or whatever surfaces it touches. To remove the stains, try soaking your blender or cutting board in a mixture of 2 parts hot water and 1 part distilled vinegar. Then, wash the items as usual and the stain should come off easier. Otherwise, the yellow stain will fade over time.
