Recipe Benefits
- There’s no smoke and very little clean-up! It’s perfect for a special occasion like date night.
- Customize the steaks to your liking. Make them medium-rare, medium, or well done by adjusting the cook times.
- This perfect Air Fryer Steak is cooked and ready to eat in 30 minutes. This is plenty of time to roast veggies or whip up a quick side dish like Whole30 mashed potatoes, Instant Pot Carrots, or a Romaine Salad.
Recommended Ingredients
- Filet mignon steaks – The filet mignon is cut from the tenderloin and because the muscle is largely unused it’s lean yet tender. It only makes up 3 percent of the animal which is why it’s so expensive per pound.
- Olive oil – For a flavorful steak, you only need two things: olive oil and seasoning. Olive oil adds plenty of flavor to the exterior while crisping it up slightly.
- Salt and pepper – The seasoning you use is mostly a matter of personal preference. A quality cut of steak only needs salt and pepper for maximum flavor, but you can add garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika too.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact measurements.
Recipe Steps
Step One
Let the steaks sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes before starting. This will produce a more evenly cooked steak.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
Step Two
Unwrap the steaks and place them in a shallow dish.
Pat them dry with clean paper towels. This removes excess moisture for a crisp outside.
Step Three
Coat the steaks with olive oil using your hands or a pastry brush. Generously salt and pepper the tops of the steaks.
Step Four
Place the steaks in the air fryer in a single layer and set the cooking time to 8 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step Five
Turn the steaks over and set the time based on how well you want them cooked.
A medium-rare steak will need less time than a well-done one.
For the perfect steak, use an instant-read thermometer to measure the internal temperature.
Step Six
Use tongs to transfer the hot steaks to serving plates. Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes to seal in the juices. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- Some air fryer models needs to be preheated. Please refer to the owner’s manual of your particular model to see if you need to preheat it before using.
- Most air fryers can fit up to 3 steaks at a time. Try not to let them overlap if you cook 3 or more at a time.
- You can get creative with your seasonings. Feel free to add up to a teaspoon each of dried rosemary, Italian seasoning, or Cajun seasoning to coat the steaks before you cook them.
- Store any leftover cooked steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Raw steaks stay fresh in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. I like to use mine by day 3 for best results!
Recipe FAQs
For a crisp exterior and tender center, air fryer a filet mignon at 400 degrees F. The hot air will circulate the steak and cook it perfectly every time. The time will depend on how well you want your steak cooked. Cook the steak to an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit for medium (use a meat thermometer to measure). This will take approximately 15 to 18 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
The internal temperature of the steak should be 125 degrees Fahrenheit for medium rare. This will take 14 minutes total in the air fryer to cook it medium rare.
Yes! The air fryer has a consistent temperature and circulates the air around your steak leaving you with a perfectly cooked steak every time!
Filet mignon is so tender that it does not need a sauce to go with it. Some people like to serve it with a compound butter or blue cheese for extra flavor.
