Healthy Instant Pot Soup Recipes
The Instant Pot is ideal for making soup, stews, and chilis because any pressure cooker requires liquid to work. This means that you will end up with a flavorful broth for whatever type of dish you prepare.
And, since a pressure cooker won’t heat up your kitchen, you can make soup at any time of year. See my guide for How to Use Your Instant Pot.
That said, I hope that this round-up of Instant Pot soup recipes will be a great resource at any time of year. From chicken soup to chili and stew, there are certainly at least several recipes you’ll want to make for yourself and your loved ones.
All of the recipes in this round-up are made gluten-free and dairy-free. You’ll find both vegan, vegetarian and non-vegan recipes so that there’s something for everyone.
Instant Pot Versus Slow Cooker
While a Crockpot slow cooker is also great for making soups, I prefer using the Instant Pot electric pressure cooker because it makes recipes in a fraction of the time.
Almost any recipe that can be cooked in a slow cooker or on the stovetop can be adapted to be made with pressure cooking. For a perfect soup, however, it’s best to use a well-tested recipe that includes the cook time and whether or not to use a quick release or natural release (or the soup setting).
I’ve included 20 of my favorite comforting soups below. I’ve used simple ingredients including sweet potatoes, wild rice, and other pantry staples.
They are all perfect for a cold night.
Yes! The Instant Pot is ideal for meal prepping soups, stews, or chiles for the week. Simply make 4-8 servings and store your cooked soup in airtight container in the refrigerator. You can freeze most soups, stews, and chiles for up to 2 months in the freezer as well. Defrost and reheat before serving.
It’s best to use dairy-free milks when cooking in the Instant Pot to prevent curdling. If you want to use dairy milk to make a creamy soup, wait until the soup is cooked and then stir it in at the end before serving. All of the recipes below are made using dairy-free milks and so no alterations are needed.
You can use the “keep warm” or “sauté mode” functions on the Instant Pot to either keep your soup warm or to reheat soup before serving. Make sure the soup has enough liquid so that it doesn’t burn using the sauté function. Stir often to also prevent burning or scorching.
The default time is 30 minutes on high pressure. This is fine if you’re cooking broth, but it’s better to use the manual button for setting the time when you’re following a recipe for making soup in the Instant Pot.
